Ichi (いち; Ichi) is an innkeeper and former slave who lives in Toyotama. She owns an inn located in Otsuna prefecture. Her inn was occupied by the forces of the Mongol warlord Altan. It is later freed by Jin Sakai and Yuna. Yuna and Ichi were both child slaves and used to be friends before Yuna escaped the slave farm.

Biography[]

Ichi was a child slave who was sold by The Black Wolf to the Mamushi brothers and forced to work at their slave farm. The Black Wolf and Mamushi Brothers were also child predators.

When they were children, Yuna and Taka were enslaved at the same farm as Ichi, where the three of them became friends. Ichi protected Yuna and Taka, with Yuna crediting Ichi with teaching her how to survive. Yuna also states to Jin that Ichi "shielded us from the worst.".

Ichi is the reason Yuna and Taka escaped the slave farm. The three of them swore they would escape together. However, she was captured during the escape. Yuna heard her screams but continued to run out of fear of dying.

Ichi holds a lot of resentment towards Yuna for not helping her when she was captured.

Ichi runs an inn that was occupied by Altan's Mongol forces. She was working with the Mongols to survive and was trying to keep the invaders drunk and detracted.

Upon hearing of Altan's reign of terror, Yuna visited the inn with Jin as she wanted to save Ichi. After killing Mongols who were alerted to their presence, they spoke to Ichi. She was upset by the killing and felt that Yuna and Jin just gave her a death sentence, as she was worried about what would happen once Altan found out. Yuna is displeased that Ichi didn't fight back and worked with the Mongols instead. Ichi showed how she was still harbouring anger over being captured during their escape attempt by suggesting that Yuna should've "run away like she always does." This caused Yuna to walk away.

Ichi explained to Jin that Altan now had Japanese slavers working for him. The slavers turned out to include The Black Wolf and the Mamushi Brothers.

Once Altan learnt that the Mamushi Brothers and The Black Wolf were killed by Jin and Yuna, he attacked the inn, killing people and burning bodies in the process. It also appeared that Ichi was injured in this attack. Ichi was visited by Jin and Yuna and informed them of what happened. She said Altan sent this as a message and that he had invited them to his camp near the Kushi border.

Jin told Ichi that Altan would pay for what had happened and that they would get justice. However, Ichi felt that Jin and Yuna had brought nothing but death.

Jin said to Ichi that "it is our duty to exact revenge. We'll take it from Altan or die trying." But Ichi once again showed her anger towards Yuna by saying, "That's the duty of a samurai. Yuna's just a thief, and thieves have no honour." Yuna then swore she would make things right; however, Ichi told Yuna, "Your promises are just like you, worthless.".

Jin and Yuna then headed off to end Altan's reign of terror. En route, Yuna expressed her upset and regret about not saving Ichi during the escape.

Ichi arrived at Altan's camp just after Jin killed Altan and spoke with Jin and Yuna. She explained that although they Killed Altan, people also know what the Ghost did to the others and that they were afraid of what the Ghost may do to them next. Jin explained that good people have nothing to fear, and Yuna asked Ichi if she believed they were monsters. Ichi responded by saying she thought they did what they had to do and said a final goodbye to Yuna. It appears this has two meanings and that she wanted to also express that she finally felt that she understood Yuna's point of view and that she had to escape. However, she still appeared somewhat cold to Yuna. Showing that she still is upset about what happened when they were children, even though she now understands Yuna's motives.
