Ghost of Yōtei is a third-person open-world action-stealth video game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Announced on September 24, 2024, it is a standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. Pre-load began on September 25, 2025, and the game released on October 2, 2025, exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 5.
Plot[]
Ghost of Yōtei takes place in 1603 (beginning of Edo Period) after the events of the Mongol invasion in Tsushima (1274-1281). Its protagonist is a woman named Atsu, who sets out on a journey of vengeance in the lands of Ezo surrounding Mount Yōtei.[2]
16 years before the events of the game, Atsu's family was killed and she was left for dead by the Yōtei Six. She is now coming for revenge.
Modes[]
Like Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei will contain several modes of play, including Samurai Cinema Mode (Japanese dialogue with lip sync), Kurosawa Mode (black and white, increased wind, film grain and audio filters, along with forced Japanese dialogue and lip sync), and the new Miike Mode (inspired by Takashi Miike, the director of 13 Assassins; a closer camera, more mud and blood splatter) and Watanabe Mode (inspired by Shinichirō Watanabe, the director of anime such as Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop; lo-fi beats will play during exploration and combat).
Release[]
Ghost of Yōtei was the top game pre-ordered in the United States, Japan, Europe, and United Kingdom in the leadup to its release.[3] At launch the game was 85GB in size.
