Genghis Khan (born Temüjin Borjigin, in Chinese Genghis Huangdi) (c. 1155/1162 - August 18, 1227) was the founder and the first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire. He ruled that state for nearly 20 years, conquering much of Eurasia. He was the grandfather of Kublai and Khotun.
Biography[]
Born at Khentii Mountains in Borjigin royal dynasty, named Temujin At Birth. 20 years after his birth he started to unite whole Mongols under his banner. After that he established Mongol Empire at Great Kurultai in the year 1206, and was nicknamed Genghis Khan (Great Leader) and elected as first Khagan of Great Mongol State. Since that he started greatest military campaign in 13th century, taking control over northern China, Qara Khitai, Khwarezmia. His armies also tried to capture Volga Bulgaria, Kievan Rus and Georgia, but those raids were repelled.
He died in Yinchuan, Western Xia By Unknown Causes, deciding that his state will be elective monarchy.
Legacy[]
In 1274, nearly fifty years after Genghis's death, his grandson Khotun Khan led the first invasion of Japan.
